I've been busy whipping up some pretty crockery
... unfortunately it's not dishwasher safe.I needed a whole pantry full of pretty gifts for some special people and thought mug rugs would be just the thing. I like to have a mug rug at every one of my work stations and I thought other hard working makers might be the same way.
Does this scenario feel familiar?
"Why did that seam go so wrong! It'll take me at least 2 whole minutes to unsew those stitches!! Where's my cup of tea? I neeed it NOW! Oh, yes ... it's here on its mug rug right beside the sewing machine."
Stand down the military.
Crisis averted.
With so much fabulous inspiration all over the internet, I decided to start by pulling out some of my favourite fabric scraps.
They were so quick and easy to make that I thought you might like to make some too.
Here is your "quick fix".
You will need to cut:
cup - 6 rectangles measuring 5 1/2 inches x 1 1/4 inch
handle - 1 rectangle for the handle 5 1/2 inches x 2 inches
backing - 6" x 6"
batting - 6" x 6"
They were quick to make, used up some small pieces of favourite fabrics (pat on the back for being frugal) and they'd be easy to personalise in bright colours, batiks ......

Sewing it together is easy peasy .....and ..... voila! All ready to sit next to the sewing machine, or the computer, or the quilting machine, or the hammock, or the pool, or on the bedside table .....
The mug rug is an easy project to make even more special with pretty trims. If you feel you'd like more instructions, the pattern will shortly be available for purchase. A comment on the blog will always find me. I'll be thinking of you while I finish my cuppa,xo
